We have a new warrior in the “War on Christmas”. The battle between the secularists and the “born again” Christians has a new defender. We have a president elect that will fight for our right to have a Christmas party instead of a holiday party.
The War on Christmas that started in 2005 with the book “The War on Christmas: How the Liberal Plot to Ban the Sacred Christian Holiday Is Worse Than You Think” written by John Gibson has reached fevorous pitch. Imagine good Christian people in retail selling overpriced wares made in China and Bangledash are forced to say “Happy Holidays” instead of “Merry Christmas”.
Forget fighting poverty or protecting the planet that God gave us to protect. Our right to say “Merry Christmas, and the liberal plot to stop us is the most important battle that Christians must face. 😒.
I think that is the sarcasm emoji. It is very hard to express sarcasm on the internet but I think I made my point.
Trump has been on his victory tour and said this the other day “When I started 18 months ago, I told my first crowd in Wisconsin that we’re going to come back here someday and we are going to say ‘Merry Christmas’ again, …. Merry Christmas — so, Merry Christmas, everyone. Happy New Year, but Merry Christmas.”
This is rich. We have a man who stands for everything that Jesus stood against protecting the day we celebrate His birth. Now Christmas is a co-opted pagan holiday that celebrated the winter solstice and the pagan god Mithras. I celebrate it not because of Mithras but I celebrate the birth of the man who will vanquish all greed and wickedness. I celebrate His first coming while waiting with bated breath for His second.
This “war” is just for the benefit of right wing apostates who fear secularism and their loss of political and social power. Bit Christianity is not about the political or social power of the world. It is about God made manifest who radically transforms the world.
I sometimes wonder what Jesus would say about this fight be fought by people who serve money, slander their enemies, reward greed while mocking the poor, and who show no love, peace, gentleness, or kindness. I think it would go something like this.
