Dear Rev. Graham
I am writing this letter in hopes that newspapers will publish it and you will read it and it will change your heart and mind. I am also posting this on social media hoping it will reach you and change your heart.
You have designated this Sunday June 2nd as a national day for prayer for our president to help protect him from his enemies. You said the only hope for him and this nation is God. I believe that as well.
But I believe that you have compromised the faith. I believe that by siding with Trump you are doing more harm to the faith than help. Trump is everything that Scripture warns us about . This is from 2 Timothy 3 3 But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. 2 People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, 3 without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, 4 treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God— 5 having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with such people. NIV
Trump has shown time and again that he is a mocker, a slanderer, a man with no humility and no decency, yet you give him religious cover. Yes Trump is supporting policies that may protect Christianity. But what is the point of protecting the church if we have to corrupt it in order to do it. Yoking ourselves with Trump is like a family hiring a pedophile bouncer to protect their children. Yes he will protect you from enemies without but all the while corrupting your house.
I don’t believe that you are a bad man, I think that fear and hatred has skewed and corrupted your faith. You are so afraid of Christians losing control that you have unwillingly sold your soul for political power. God has given you so many gifts. You could be using them to spread the Gospel. To show an unbelieving country that God is good. That we have a savior who died for us but also lived to show us how to truly be human.
Unfortunately Trump is the the complete opposite of Jesus. He is against all of the virtues that Jesus taught and many people including you are treating him like he is God’s anointed. Jesus said that we can not serve two masters and his whole live has been about serving himself and money.
Elijah did not ask for the Israelites to pray for Queen Jezebel. He spoke out against her corruption. Isaiah did not stand up for the status quo. He spoke up against it and his words in Isaiah 1 could describe America today. And John the Baptist spoke out against the corrupt and sexual degenerate King Herod Antipas. He did not give him religious succor.
So Reverend Graham. Be a man of God. Be like your father. Grid up your loins and unyoke yourself from this man who shows none of the fruit of the Spirit. Galatians 5 22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. NIV
Yes this will be difficult. Yes some people will hate you. Those who drank the Trump flavor-aid will call you names, will attack you. Donations may dry up. But doing this with Jesus and His word backing you up will not only help you, it will help this nation and maybe will even help bring non believers to Christ.
The ball is in your court. You could rise up to this occasion and help lead a third great awakening or you could continue to do what you are doing. Being a false prophet who tarnishes the name of Jesus Christ in the eyes of the non believers.
You can do this. I believe in you but more than that I believe in a God of truth and a God of justice. The only question is do you?
