Talent From Both My Fathers Part one

Now I don’t want to sound like Rush Limbaugh whose slogan is “Talent on Loan From God”. Personally viewing all the stuff that he has done, supported, and said I think that might be a blasphemy. His voice was not prophetic and had none of the gifts of the Holy Spirit. None of them could be used to describe Rush.

Galatians 5: 22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control.

But starting to write blogs again made me think, where does my talent come from? So I am going to steal Rush’s line and make it better. I got my writing talent from both my fathers. And no, I have a dad and a mom. I am talking about my earthly father and my Heavenly Father. Christians have two fathers. And sometime the relationship with the former can affect the later.

Now show me a man who has not had a complicated relationship with his father and I will show you a liar. My dad and I have had our ups and downs but I love him with all my heart. I am a progressive Christian and he is the most conservative man in the liberal bastion of Madison WI.

We don’t agree on politics. He supported Trump. And of course I did not. He is not of the religious right school of conservatism. He is more the old school economic small government individual responsibility George Will conservatism. I like to describe him is if Rush Limbaugh and George Will somehow had a child it would be my father.

No matter how much we may disagree about politics. He is still the man and I am still the boy in this picture. And we love each other

My dad, David Blaska is also a great writer. He has been a writer ever since he wrote for the Bugtown Gazette. A paper he was editor and chief writer for that he created when he was a wee lad in Sun Prairie. He studied journalism and wrote and edited for the UW Oshkosh Advance Titan,Yes he was a liberal hippie back then. He wrote for a paper in Dekalb Illinois, the Waukesha Freeman and wrote for and was one of editors of the most liberal newspapers east of Berkeley and west of New York City. He now blogs. https://davidblaska.com

He is a very talented writer. We may disagree on much such as the systematic problems in society. But he and I agree on much as well. We both believe that the progressive left have gone to far into victimhood and that the cancel culture is misguided at best and harmful at worst. And that looting and harassing innocent people is not a way to protest.

My mom also is a very talented writer as well. She writes about her memories growing up in the 50’s and 60’s and her experiences at her father’s rural tavern.

Talent is nature but I also think that it is nurture. My father always encouraged critical thinking as well as introduced me to the world of politics. My father was on the Dane County board from 1994-2006. I enjoyed campaigning with him and working on campaign leaflets.

I am grateful for the wit and intellectual curiosity that my dad gave me. We may be on different ends of the political spectrum but we can still be decent to each other as long as we now when to let politics lie.

That was part one. In Part two, I will discuss the most creative father in the universe, God. I will discuss the prophets, Dietrich Bonhoeffer, and C.S Lewis. I am nowhere near the stratosphere where they are but they are inspirations as well and if God wills it maybe Max Blaska might get to join them.

God Bless
